Burgess Yachts absorbs the OceanStyle brand, new headquarters for Select Yachts, late-season deals in Spain's Balearic Isles and more

Burgess Yachts Absorbs the OceanStyle Brand

Burgess Yachts has announced the full integration of the OceanStyle by Burgess brand into the parent company, which will now represent all yachts 30 meters (98 feet) and larger.

Burgess formed the OceanStyle brand in 2005 to focus on smaller, semi-production yachts, while Burgess Yachts concentrated on larger, custom yachts. It was a time before the global economic crash when such market segmentation made sense, because the superyacht sector was growing at an unprecedented pace.

Times have now changed, as Burgess Group Sales Director Tim Wiltshire stated in a news release.

“The significant rise of the semi-custom sector due to changing economic conditions and evolving yacht building practices has re-drawn traditional market boundaries over the last decade and there is no longer clear water between the semi and fully custom sectors,” he said. “Today’s move will therefore cohesively combine the expertise of our energetic OceanStyle team with the global power of the Burgess brand in further expanding the fast-growing semi-custom market sector.”

The OceanStyle website has been redirected to the Burgess Yachts home page, and all of the yachts previously featured by OceanStyle appear to now be listed as part of the Burgess charter fleet. Rates, destinations and other charter information appear to be unchanged.

Select Yachts Opens New Headquarters, Adds to Fleet

Select Yachts, a Sint Maarten-based charter company since 2004, has just opened a new headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.

Longtime charter broker Ann E. McHorney will remain as the company’s director, traveling between the new Fort Lauderdale office and the Sint Maarten support post.

“When it comes to vacations, people love the Caribbean, but for getting things done we can’t beat the ease of the U.S.,” she stated in a press release. “As time moves on we find we have become more and more ‘cyber.’ The reality is that we can be almost anywhere with good internet access, but for cost and accessibility we just love South Florida.”

Marilyn Eckel will remain in Sint Maarten, handling charter marketing for the sailing fleet. Bonnie Mims will manage the fleet’s motoryachts from Fort Lauderdale.

And speaking of yachts in the Select Yachts fleet, the company just welcomed the 62-foot Lagoon sailing catamaran Tell Star (that’s Tell Star in the photograph above) along with the 57-foot Fountaine-Pajot sailing yacht Zimaya (scheduled to launch from the shipyard in October) to the charter fleet in the Caribbean.

Clients can continue to reach everyone on the Select Yachts team through the company’s main website.

Lots of Late-Season Charter Deals in the Balearic Isles

If you’ve always wanted to charter a yacht in Spain’s Balearic Isles, now is the time: The high season is over, the weather is still great and no fewer than five yachts are offering deals for bookings throughout the rest of September.

Ocean Independence has two yachts giving charter clients a price break. First is the 85-foot Mochi motoryacht White Fang, which is dropping her weekly base rate by 15 percent, to €25,000, for eight guests. Ocean Independence also has the 80-foot Ferretti motoryacht Piacere in the Balearics at a 20-percent discount this month, making the weekly base rate €21,600 for eight guests.

Yachting Partners International also has two yachts offering Balearics charter deals right now. They are the 83-foot Ferretti motoryacht Monticello II, which has dropped her weekly base rate from €35,000 to €30,000 for eight guests, and the 109-foot Bilgin motoryacht Madness, which has dropped her weekly base rate from €65,000 to €55,000 for eight guests. (That’s Madness in the photograph at right.)

Last but not least is Burgess Yachts, which has the 97-foot Falcon motoryacht Powdermonkey of London seeking to pick up some late-season Balearics bookings. Her owner is giving four days for the price of three, or nine days for the price of seven, for charters with 10 to 12 guests.

Any reputable charter broker can tell you more about any of these yachts or help you book them in the Balearic Isles while the weather is still great and the prices are at an end-of-season discount.
