Nicholson Yachts sends word that longtime Capt. and chef Frank and Sue Ficken are taking a break from the charter world this summer, with Capt. and chef Andrew and Arwyn Kaiser stepping aboard the 108-foot Alloy sailing yacht Marae for the upcoming season.
The Kaisers previously ran the 76-foot Discovery sailing yacht Tilly Mint, which is also part of the Nicholson fleet (and which recently pulled off an amazing rescue in the mid-Atlantic that I wrote this article about for Yachting).
Marae is a 2004 build that accommodates six guests in three staterooms. One has a queen bed, one has a double and the third has twins, making the yacht great for family charters. Four crew are on board, including the captain and chef.
I toured Marae in spring 2013, and the yacht looked great. She is a classic sailing yacht through and through, with rich woodwork and traditional charm. She has enjoyed excellent upkeep that is continuing right now at the Hinckley shipyard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where Marae is getting an interior refit and more ahead of the upcoming charter season at the America’s Cup in Bermuda followed by the summer in New England. (Dates are still available for bookings in both destinations.)
Any reputable charter broker can tell you more about Marae or help you book a week on board with her new crew this summer.
