10 Best Charter Yachts for Large Events

Charter broker Rebecca Riley at Paradise Yacht Charters has two suggestions this week. First is the 177-foot CRN motoryacht Maraya, which she says “is amazing at handling high-profile clients and parties.  They did several exquisite ‘red carpet’ parties for one of my clients at the Cannes Film Festival. Everything went smoothly and my clients were thrilled!”

Riley also suggests the 269-foot Oceanco motoryacht Alfa Nero for large events: “I have been a guest onboard Alfa Nero for a dockside party with more than 100 guests. Everything they did was impressive. Unique hors d’oeuvres, impeccable service. Definitely a memorable event.”

The team at YCO Yacht suggest the 180-foot sailing yacht Elena, a replica of the classic Herreshoff design by the same name: “Her wide beam of over 8 meters provides a wealth of deck space for cocktail parties, enabling her to welcome up to 80 guests at a time.”

Jennifer Saia, president of The Sacks Group Yachting Professionals, suggests the 160-foot Christensen motoryacht Odessa, which launched last fall: “The owner specified functional, movable furniture for the yachts in order to facilitate entertaining on a large scale.”

CharterWave editor Kim Kavin has several recommendations this week as well. First is for the 147-foot Hakvoort motoryacht Trust: “Chef Hilbert Sluiter was once an onshore chef for the Volvo Ocean Race, catering extremely large events. He brings those skills to this charter yacht, which bodes extremely well for large events where you don’t want to hire a separate caterer.”

Chef Hamish Watson and the crew aboard the 183-foot Benetti motoryacht Galaxy once catered meals for 700 people over four days at the Cannes Film Festival. That included breakfasts, brunches, lunches, cocktail brunches, and dinners during a corporate charter. As Kim says: “Events don’t get much larger aboard charter yachts.”

The 97-foot Hargrave motoryacht Cocktails may seem small on paper for large parties, but in real life, the yacht and crew deliver: “I was aboard for a cocktail party just a few months ago. There were easily 50 or 60 people enjoying drinks and hors d’oeuvres, with plenty of room and very good service by the crew,” Kim says.

At 290 feet long, the motoryacht Lauren L offers multiple spaces that are designed for large parties. As Kim says: “It is the rare charter yacht that can accommodate a formal, sit-down dinner for several dozen guests. Lauren L offers that and more.”

The 254-foot motoryacht Samar also offers a formal ambience for large events: “The captain told me that several state dinners have been held onboard,” Kim says, “so the crew are well trained in terms of offering impeccable service for large parties of dignitaries.”

Last but not least this week is the 198-foot motoryacht Titan: “Her sky lounge is designed almost like an open-floor discotheque, with cocktail tables on either side and a large bar at the end,” Kim says. “And guests can move from there to the outdoor decks in a matter of a few steps, so you get a great traffic flow even when more than 100 people are onboard.”
