Broker Shannon Webster of Shannon Webster Charters has three suggestions this week, starting with the 198-foot Feadship Blue Moon. “Not only does she boast a private gymnasium in the owner’s suite with pilates equipment, treadmill, and dumbbell weights, she also offers a 42-inch flat-screen TV, individual satellite receiver, en-suite head with shower and sink, and massage table. The guest suite gym offers a 42-inch flat-screen TV, treadmill, elliptical machine, 5- to 40-pound dumbbells, spinning bike, and weight bench. For the discriminating client and their guests, this is an excellent yacht for those wanting to stay fit while on their private yacht charter vacation.”
Webster’s second-favorite charter yacht gym is aboard the 194-foot Lurssen motoryacht Oasis: “The upper open-air deckhouse contains a well-appointed gymnasium with a treadmill, elliptical machine, Jacuzzi, open shower, and free weights.”
Last but not least this week from Webster is a recommendation for the gymnasium on the 115-foot McMullen and Wing motoryacht Surprise: “Following a full retro-fit in August 2009, the gymnasium features a treadmill, fixed workout station with pulley weights, and an adjustable incline bench, bicycle, balls, and a wide range of free weights.”
Charter broker Ali Kaufmann of The Sacks Group Yachting Professionals loves the gym aboard the 163-foot Codecasa motoryacht Grace E: “She has an amazing gym. It was created recently, and all the equipment is state-of-the-art. It’s on the flybridge, so the views while working out can be quite inspiring. New exercise equipment includes free weights, mats and medicine ball, Life Fitness dual adjustable pulley weights, Life Fitness Elliptical and Power Plate—and even a cooling mist spray system. Once you are done with the workout, you simply walk out the doors, where there is a nice bar and, I’m sure, a refreshing post-workout smoothie!”
Fraser Yachts Worldwide suggests the gymnasium on the 197-foot Feadship motoryacht Paraffin: “Paraffin boasts the largest gymnasium facilities on any private motoryacht, offering stunning 360-degree water views. A full array of workout equipment features a flat-screen TV at every station, integrated into the onboard satellite/DVD system. Wireless headphones ensure that each person can enjoy their own programming choice. An adjacent steam and massage room provides the perfect ending to any workout session.”
CharterWave editor Kim Kavin has several recommendations this week, as well. First is for the newly launched, 205-foot motoryacht Icon from Icon Yachts. The boat’s gymnasium is within the bottom deck’s “beach club.” Guests can walk from their cabins straight to the gym for a workout using the Power Plate, treadmill, or Techno Gym equipment, and then walk just a few feet for a refreshing smoothie at the bar or a swim in the waters right off the adjacent swim platform.
Kim also recommends the gym aboard the newly launched, 295-foot Benetti motoryacht Bistango, which has a fully enclosed, air-conditioned gymnasium on her top deck. It includes a Turkish bath and is just steps away from the outdoor hot tub as well as from the elevator that can whisk you back to your cabin for a private shower.
Kim also loves the gymnasium aboard the 254-foot Devonport motoryacht Samar. It is perhaps the most elegantly decorated gym aboard any charter yacht in the world, with a steam hammam and full exercise equipment surrounded by master artworks and ornate ceiling decorations.
Next on Kim’s list of best charter yacht gymnasiums is the 214-foot Feadship motoryacht Trident, which was built with a dedicated air conditioning system to prevent recycled air from filtering back into the space mid-workout. The treadmill on this yacht is sunken into the floor, allowing people as tall as 6 feet, 5 inches to jog without worrying that their heads will bang into the ceiling.
Last but least this week is Kim’s recommendation for the 183-foot Benetti motoryacht Galaxy. She has a fully enclosed, air-conditioned gym on her top deck that lets guests work out with 360-degree views of whatever harbor or dock the yacht has chosen for the day. A hot tub is a few steps away outdoors for post-workout relaxation.
