About CharterWave

ChaterWave is the brainchild of Kim Kavin, an award-winning journalist widely recognized as one of the world’s top yacht charter experts. She is the former executive editor of Yachting and the current charter/cruising editor of Power & Motoryacht, the leading boating magazine in the United States for nearly a decade.

During her years of covering yacht charter for these and other magazines, Kim realized that a lot of people who might be interested in booking charters are not necessarily interested in reading about boat-maintenance tips and the newest anchor chains. She thought charter should have a place of its own outside the boating magazines—a place for vacationers instead of boat owners, where the charter information could be greatly expanded beyond anything you might find in any other magazine or website, anywhere in the world.

She started by writing Dream Cruises (titled Have the Whole Boat in its first edition)—the first book ever to offer readers a look at the entire charter industry from bareboats to fully crewed yachts, and how they compare to cruise ships.

After giving readers a basic understanding of how charter works, Kim wanted to create a place for them to continue to learn about charter yachts, brokers, and vacation opportunities, and to exchange honest information with one another and with industry experts.

That’s why she created CharterWave and set out to make it the world’s most trusted yacht vacation resource. She works with reliable marine journalists the world over to bring you all the up-to-date information you need to book the charter yacht vacation of your dreams.

Kim works with these reputable journalists because she is incredibly serious about CharterWave's editorial integrity. Too many websites and magazines today will print whatever advertisers want, in exchange for those advertisers paying a fee. Sometimes, magazines even let the advertisers write the articles! (Think about it: Have you ever read a review of a “bad cruise”?)

Kim believes that kind of advertorial information is far less useful than real reporting about yachts, brokers, crew and destinations. When CharterWave offers its editorial seal of approval, we want you to know you can trust it. We even make it easy for you to distinguish our unbiased editorial coverage from our "sponsored links" and advertisements, which are clearly labeled as such.

If you have ideas we can use to make CharterWave even more helpful as you learn about private yacht charter vacaitons, please feel free to e-mail Kim at Kim@CharterWave.com. You can also reply to her blog postings, if you prefer.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to learn more about CharterWave and the philosophy behind its content and services. We hope to see you soon enjoying yourself on private charter yachts everywhere from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean and beyond!
